Mais Caminhos offers free activities and English classes to youth aged 8–19 in Rio de Janeiro's favelas. It is a vital organization — but when Garrett Fraino arrived, it had room to become more effective. The EFM didn't just show up to tutor students, though he did that too, extensively, providing personal coaching and support to individual young people navigating difficult circumstances. He looked at the organization as a whole and started improving what he found. He rewrote the teaching guide. He redesigned training for volunteer teachers to make it more practical and effective. He built an attendance tracking system and a curriculum development plan. Then he added something entirely new: a tourism and hospitality training program giving older students a recognized credential they could bring into the workforce. Fraino left Mais Caminhos measurably stronger than he found it.
